| Terry Westbrook
Terry has been with the GREEN ONIONS since
June of '98. He started subbing with the band a couple of years before that when
he & ONIONS' sax man Mike Reed were working in a show at Six Flags'
Astroworld together & their then current drummer, Jerry Chambers, couldn't
make some gigs. He started filling in more & more and eventually found
himself a member of the band. Terry started learning the drums at about age
4 and had his first paying gigs by age 7 1/2. He played on weekends until
graduating high school in 1977. The following year he landed the job as house
drummer for GILLEY'S CLUB & RECORDING STUDIO, holding that job for 11 years.
It was during this time that he met ONIONS' lead guitarist Steve Hitt. As a
matter of fact, Steve played the very last night at Gilley's with the house
band! In 1989, upon the club & recording studio
closing down, Terry went to work at LIMELIGHT RECORDING STUDIO as staff
recording engineer/producer & studio musician. For the next 9 years he honed
his skills in the studio behind the board as well as in the drum booth gaining a
well-rounded knowledge of studio production technique, all the while playing 3-4
nights a week in various bands, working for a time with blues band JOHNNY BOY
& THE KINGS. It was also during this period of time he
& Steve Hitt worked together in the house band at the 1500-seat TEXAS ROSE
HALL. He says "I consider it a real honor to be
working with a band that has this kind of history with the caliber players that
are currently in the band-it keeps me on my toes!" |
